The Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a public Rededication on September 18, 2010.
This date corresponded with the original dedication date of the facility 50 years ago, September 12, 1960.
The Anniversary/Re-dedication highlighed the Missoula Fire Sciences Lab’s rich history and its unique role in the world of wildland fire research. The Fire Lab is located on a campus which includes several Forest Service branches as well as other agencies. Our campus, the Missoula Fire, Sciences, & Technology Center, links missions dedicated to the pursuit of wildland fire research and technology development with those who apply the science, technology and fire safety.
Activities included fire whirl and fire wall burn demonstrations; historic displays, hands-on activities using our Fireworks educational package, and tours of the Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory and other facilities at the Missoula Fire, Science & Technology Center. The event also included talks by Forest Service officials, representatives from the University of Montana, representatives from various government offices, and special guests from the inception era.
The Missoula Fire, Sciences, & Technology Center consists of the Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory as well as the following facilities:
