The Remote Sensing Lab is using data collected from the Terra and Aqua satellites. Data is collected up to twelve times daily as the satellites pass within our view. These satellites are in low earth orbit, approximatly 700 KM (436 miles) above the surface of the earth.

Current Satellite Views (Red Dots denote Hot Spots detected by Infrared images)
- The Radome on our roof houses a 4.2 meter receiving dish from Jackson and Tull's Smartech division
- The University of Wisconsin developed the software we use to process the data.
- NASA and the University of Maryland developed the fire detection algorithm.
- We are studying the impact of vegetation fires on regional air quality, tropospheric chemistry, and global climate.
- For Ground truth we have added IR cameras which cover different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum:
- CMC Cincinnati Electronics TVS-8500 (3-5 micron)
- Mikron MikroScan 7200 (8-14 micron)
