Duncan Lutes is a Fire Ecologist at the Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory. He received a B.S. in Forest Management, and M.S. in Forestry from the University of Montana.
After graduate school Duncan was hired as a term employee at the Missoula Fire Lab. He then became a contractor for Systems for Environmental Management assisting research in fire modeling applications. Most recently he was hired by the U.S. Forest Service. Duncan has been involved in the development of the First Order Fire Effects Model, the Fire and Fuels Extension to the Forest Vegetation Simulator, FIREMON, Fuel Loading Models, FFI, and FuelCalc.
Duncan was raised in Mankato, Minnesota and moved to Whitefish, Montana after high school to be a ski bum. The ski bum thing didn't work out so he started taking Forestry classes at Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell, Montana and subsequently transferred to the University of Montana where he completed his studies.
