Personal Summary

Zack is a research ecologist in the Fire, Fuel, and Smoke Science Program at the Missoula Fire Sciences Laboratory. Zack’s research focuses understanding of the distribution of water and energy across landscapes and the influence they have on fire behavior and post-fire ecological effects. He uses high resolution weather data and hydrologic models to better predict how fires respond to vegetation stress and drought. He has also developed tools and models to help managers predict regeneration success after wildfires.

Current projects:

Topofire: high resolution drought monitoring for the conterminous US
Regenmapper: A post-fire reforestation assessment tool
