Shawn Urbanski is an Atmospheric Chemist for the Fire, Fuel, and Smoke Science Program. He received his Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atmospheric Science. He is currently doing Post-Doctoral research on terrestrial carbon exchange instrument development, Harvard University.
Research:
1. Development of biomass burning emission inventories (US, Canada, Mexico). 2. Rapid response emission inventories for wildland fires in the US. 3. Assessing the impact of wildland fires (wild and prescribed) on air quality. 4. Develop and demonstrate a proptotype fire emission - smoke dispersion modeling system. 5. Field and laboratory studies characterizing the chemical composition of smoke. 6. Development of emission factor databases for emission inventories and air quality modeling.
